Summer Update and a Tornado!

In some ways, it feels strange to be composing a summer update at the beginning of October.
On the other hand, it is just now beginning to feel even remotely like fall, so weather-wise it's appropriate :).
We had a full, eventful summer. As you know, we spent our summer in Colorado taking classes (Kerri) and preparing for Cru's biennial US Staff Conference (Jonathan).  The day after we arrived in Colorado, our house was hit by a very small tornado (an F0, which I didn't even know was a thing), which completely tore off a portion of our roof, knocked down our entire fence, significantly damaged our garage door, and knocked our A/C unit off its base. So crazy. We were incredibly thankful for wonderful neighbors, who kept us appraised of the damage and also for my parents, who came up to north Fort Worth a couple of times to make sure all was OK and to be at our house when the adjuster came. We are still in the process of getting everything repaired and replaced, but are so thankful for the ways God has provided.

At a Colorado Rockies' game the night we learned of the tornado.

In September, I took my first ever, very much needed, sabbatical. I probably could have used a
few more weeks to wind down and reconnect with the Lord and my own heart, and yet I'm so thankful for the time I did get and find myself refreshed and refocused. I look forward to sharing a bit of what I learned in future updates.
Jonathan and the girls have gotten off to a good start this year.  Both girls are in their last years at their respective schools (sigh) - Zoe in 8th grade and Sophie in 4th. We are so thankful for both of these schools and the teachers who have given so much for our kiddos. Zoe is actually taking 3 high school level classes this year and is learning a lot about organization and prioritizing :).
We’re so proud of the ways that she is stepping up to the challenge, but also that she is learning about boundaries and perspective - hard work matters, but having a great life does not require perfect performance. We’re encouraging her to not buy in to the pressure cooker that seems to be the current normative high school experience.

Sophie remains our little firecracker and is taking 4th grade by storm.
Jonathan was chosen to participate in a Keller ISD leadership program and is finding his skills and passions in high demand. We’re praying that God uses him to bless his district and that he is a good steward of the opportunities that come his way.
We're so grateful for all the ways God uses and provides for us. I hope to connect with you personally before the end of the year and am looking forward to hearing what God is up to you in your life!
